Djokovic's US Tennis return ends in defeat: loss in Ohio matches

Djokovic's return to US Tennis ends in defeat: loss in singles and doubles matches in Ohio.

Novak Djokovic, the Serbian tennis star, faced a setback in his first match in the United States since 2021, as he suffered a loss in doubles at the Western & Southern Open on Tuesday. Djokovic partnered with Nikola Cacic but was defeated 6-4, 6-2 by Jamie Murray and Michael Venus. This marked Djokovic's return to the country after missing events due to COVID-19 vaccine restrictions.

The match marked Djokovic's competitive comeback since his loss to top-ranked Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final. The Serbian, holding a record 23 Grand Slam singles titles, is set to compete in singles play, facing Alejandro Davidovich Fokina on Wednesday night. On the other hand, Alcaraz was playing against Australian qualifier Jordan Thompson in a late match. The reigning U.S. Open champion was on the verge of becoming the first ATP player to achieve 50 wins this season.

Women's Play

Women's play featured former U.S. Open champion Sloane Stephens, who reached the third round for the first time since 2019. She secured a hard-fought victory against sixth-seeded defending tournament champion Caroline Garcia with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Stephens' victory against Garcia marked her second win in her last 10 matches against top-10 players, improving her record to 2-8.

In another match, fifth-seeded Ons Jabeur made an impressive comeback after being down 5-1 in the third set. She overcame Anhelina Kalinina with a score of 6-3, 6-7 (2), 7-6 (2). This was Jabeur's first match since her loss in the Wimbledon final. The Western & Southern Open continues to showcase intense matches and notable comebacks as tennis players compete for victory on the court.
